What a wonderful team Tom and Nimue Brown are. They create such glorious whimsy together. Nimue’s characters are a mixture of beauty, pain, innocence and evil. They would be quite enthralling as mere words written on the page, but then Tom takes us to another level with his haunting, touching images. I enjoyed looking at all the hidden creatures and objects on the pages. I smiled at his depiction of the facial expressions of the children in the story. I love the personalities emerging in the telling of the tale. What a depressing and horrible place is Hopeless, Maine. But what a entertaining little gem of a book depicts it for us to enjoy.
