Kate Forsyth wrote her first novel at the age of seven, and is now the award-winning & internationally bestselling author of more than 20 books for both adults and children.

Her books for adults include The Wild Girl, the love story of Wilhelm Grimm and Dortchen Wild, the young woman who told him many of the world’s most famous fairy tales; Bitter Greens, a retelling of the Rapunzel fairytale; and the bestselling fantasy series ‘Witches of Eileanan’. Her books for children include The Gypsy Crown, The Puzzle Ring, and The Starkin Crown.

Kate is currently studying a doctorate in fairytale retellings at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Question 1: Please name your favourite cake

Question 2: Please name your favourite villain

Irata, the evil faery queen in my novel THE PUZZLE RING. She was so much fun to write!wild girl

Question 3: A stranger walks up to you on the street, hands you a briefcase and says “You know what to do”. How do you react?

In real life, I’d probably gape and goggle before trying to hand it back. In my imagination, I’d say, ‘the queen hornet is in flight’, and embark on an amazing adventure before ending up with the treasure AND the boy.

Question 4: What’s your most preferred question from a fan/interviewer?

How on earth do you write such utterly brilliant and beautiful books?

An illustrated children’s book called TWO SELKIE TALES FROM SCOTLAND and a contemporary novel for adults called DANCING ON KNIVES which draws on the Little Mermaid fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson.
