GiniGini Koch lives in Hell’s Orientation Area (aka Phoenix, AZ), works her butt off (sadly, not literally) by day, and writes by night with the rest of the beautiful people.

She writes the fast, fresh and funny Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt series for DAW Books, the Necropolis Enforcement Files series, and the Martian Alliance Chronicles series for Musa Publishing. As G.J. Koch she writes the Alexander Outland series.

She also writes under a variety of other pen names including Anita Ensal, Jemma Chase, A.E. Stanton, and J.C. Koch. She speaks frequently on what it takes to become a successful author and other aspects of writing and the publishing business. She is also the Lead Editor at Raphael’s Village, an online, nonpaying ’zine. Because she wasn’t busy enough, Gini’s added on featured guest columnist, reviewer, and webcaster for Slice of SciFi and It’s Comic Book Day.

She can be reached through her website at www.ginikoch.com.

Question 1: Please name your favourite cake

Marble with white/vanilla buttercream frosting (make that extra frosting) with or without coconut on top, or any cupcake made by Cupcakes By Design ‘cause theirs are da BOMB. And then red velvet. And then coconut cream. I love, no make that adore, cake, ergo, this answer could run on even longer, but I’m showing great restraint and stopping here. (Devil’s food cake with white buttercream frosting is also in the Top 5!)

Question 2: Please name your favourite villainUntitled-1

Gini: Oooh…that’s a toughie. If you mean fave villain I’ve created, it’d be Leventhal Reid from my Alien Series (first introduced in Alien Tango), because he’s very human, and very depraved, while appearing to be nice and normal. If you mean fave villain in general, Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes, in part because of the genius way Doyle created this villain halfway through Holmes’ career and yet made us believe he’d been around since the first story.
However, if you mean what villain would I like to spend some sexy times with, it’s Loki as played by Tom Hiddleston. You know, like everyone else in the world. I’m also inordinately fond of Billy Zane in pretty much any role, but especially his villain roles.

Question 3: A stranger walks up to you on the street, hands you a briefcase and says “You know what to do”. How do you react?

Hmmm. Honestly, my first reaction would probably be to laugh and look around for the cameras. If, however, cameras weren’t in evidence, I’d take the suitcase and race off to the nearest local law enforcement. I’d want to open it, of course, but I’m not that trusting and would have to figure there was a bomb of some kind in it. If no bomb was shown to be there, I’d try to figure out the mystery of what was going on.

gini3Question 4: What’s your most preferred question from a fan/interviewer?

I haven’t found a question I love more than any other, but eager interest in the next books coming out is always a favourite. I like any question that shows someone’s read and is interested in what I write, or is interested in something else that they know I’m also interested in.

Question 5: What’s your least preferred question from a fan/interviewer?

Well, there are a lot of questions that are repetitive (though, happily, none of yours!), so those get boring and rote after a while, at least to answer. I figure that the question and answer will be new for those asking, or else they wouldn’t ask. I don’t dislike the questions, or my answers to them, but once you’ve said who your favourite authors are about 200 times, you start to wince when you see the question forming on someone’s lips. Also, I’m not wild about anything that is asking for any kind of spoiler, because I live spoiler-free in terms of what’s coming in my various stories. Otherwise, I’m pretty jazzed that anyone cares about what I think about anything, so I’m usually pretty happy to answer pretty much anything and everything.

Gini1Bonus Question: Could you tell us more about your newest non-series release, Random Musings from the Funny Girl?

Random Musings from the Funny Girl is my first full length collection
of short humor. Many, but not all, of the pieces have been previously
published — including the pieces that started my career — but this
is pretty much now the only place where you can find them, let alone
find them all together. PLUS there are a ton of new pieces that have
never been seen before, anywhere. Because I’m a giver, me. Anyone who wants to actually understand the inner workings of my mind should get his book — it’s far more true than most people will want to believe. And if you just like my sense of humor, well, it’s here, in all its sarcastic glory. Truly, it’s a deal at twice the price.
